So, what exactly is reiki?Reiki is an ancient healing modality with origins in Japan. "Rei" means "universal" and "kei" means "life force energy." "Kei" is synonymous with "qi" or "chi" from the Chinese tradition and "prana" from the Hindu tradition. Reiki can be performed hands-on or hands-off, virtually or in person. In a session, the practitioner will listen to the client's concerns and then design a course of action. Typical reiki sessions include scanning the energetic body for issues or blockages, sending healing to specific issues or ailments, chakra work, sound therapy, crystals... you name it!

What are the benefits of receiving reiki treatments?Where do I even begin?!?! Reiki can be extremely beneficial in stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, which can allow waves of calm to wash over the body. This can aid in basic bodily functions, such as sleep and digestion, as well as help reduce feelings of anxiety. Reiki can also be used as a complementary therapy to medical treatments and talk therapy, and is the perfect addition to any self-care routine. Over time, receiving reiki treatments can help you learn to slow down, self-soothe, connect with your higher power, manifest with intention, and experience deeper holistic wellness. Reiki can also be especially powerful for individuals going through major life transitions, such as breakups, job loss, illness, etc.

Do you specialize in reiki for certain populations? While I'm happy to offer virtual reiki sessions to anyone and everyone, I specialize in meeting the needs of creatives and members of the LGBTQ+ community. As a queer writer, I understand the intricacies and unique needs of these populations firsthand. I see clients from very diverse backgrounds and have extensive experience working with trans individuals. I also work with artists in a variety of media, helping remove blockages to expression and creativity. My practice is extremely inclusive and trauma-informed. While all my sessions are specially curated to support each individual's healing needs, I specialize in chakra balancing.

What styles of yoga do you teach?I teach restorative and yin yoga, which are slower-paced forms of asana that focus on deep spiritual healing. Restorative yoga is from the Hindu tradition and focuses on highly-propped, extremely cozy poses. This style of yoga encourages individuals to slow down, engage in self-care, and focus on deeper mind-body awareness to help reduce stress and anxiety. Yin yoga comes from the lineage of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), just like acupuncture or tui na massage. Yin yoga stimulates the energetic meridians throughout the body by inviting long holds in each pose. This helps stuck emotions release from the body, as it is believed that negative emotions and experiences are stored in our fascia, especially within the hips. While both styles of yoga encourage contemplation and healing through long holds in each pose, the bodily sensations they offer differ greatly. It can help to think of yin as a deep tissue massage, with a lot of pressure and intense sensation that dissipates over time. On the other hand, restorative yoga is more akin to a Swedish massage, where gentle sensation and serenity are paramount.

What are your credentials and qualifications?I'm a Reiki Master in the Usui-Tibetan lineage, so I've gone through 4 levels of training, 10+ attunements, and have all reiki symbols from that lineage (and more!) activated in my palms. I studied under Kim Alexandrescu, the owner of Sacred Space Astoria, and Nitya Vink, the owner of Reiki Medicine. I'm also an RYT500 yoga instructor, and I completed my YTT at Three Sisters Yoga in NYC. I also completed supplemental yin training with Anjali Yoga Academy and trauma-informed teacher training through Yoga International. I currently teach public asana classes, host virtual corporate yoga, and even design my own curriculum for yoga teacher training courses.
